I would like to write a blog post in honor of the music and dancing of Michael Jackson, 1958-2009. I grew up dancing to Michael's music in my basement. When "Thriller" first came out when I was six years old, I learned every zombie dance step by watching the video and performed the steps for my family to much applause and laughter.
UpBring's End of Year Show, Dance Through the Decades on June 14, 2009, was a big hit! The Toddlers were 90s boyband-tastic dancing to "Hangin' Tough" by the New Kids on the Block. Our 4-6 year olds boogie-woogied their way across the stage in their precious USO costumes. Our 7-9 year olds had a super-high disco fever in their hot pink glitter.
UpBring's first Musical Theater class presented Alice in Wonderland on June 7, 2009, directed by Molly Mastrangelo and music directed by Scott Davis. The performance was held at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. The actors really got into character when they put on their fantastic costumes, designed and created by Mallory Kaufman.
This year's Touring Company and TnT trip to Six Flags Great Adventure was...hot hot hot!! In more ways than one! The day was a super fun, sweat filled day of rides and attractions. The biggest attraction of all was when UpBring took the stage at the Showcase Theater.
UpBring performed 3 shows on the street during NYC's biggest and best street fair, Atantic Antic, on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Brooklyn. Director Shari was due to give birth any day! Teachers Shana and Patrice led free dance classes all day long. Everyone had a blast! Even Shana's puppy.
UpBring performed the end of the year show “My Tomorrow” on June 15, 2008 at Brooklyn Friends School.
Narrated by 2 UpBring dancers, Zoe and Jenna, the show was a journey into the future as the girls speculated on what the future would look like. Each class danced out their interesting ideas.
This was UpBring’s 5th Atlantic Antic and it was the best one ever!!We had a huge turnout of performers and our biggest audience to date. The dancers performed pieces from “Around the World.” We performed 3 shows at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. Thanks to all the dancers who participated and a special shout out to those that danced in all three shows.
UpBring Dancers worked hard all year for their end of the year show, “Around the World.” Dancers performed stunning pieces in world dance styles including African, Hindi, Salsa, Tango, Bellydance, and the Cha Cha. Our Toddler Dancers performed on the stage for the first time!
Touring Company performed in the Midway Tent in Hershey Park on June 11, 2007. TC did a great job performing pieces from their repertoire including Come On Everybody, Will I, Technologic, Whappy Mama, Cha Cha, and Lose Control. After their show it was water park rides galore for the fabulous dancers! They sure deserved it!
Our winter sharing show at the Micro Museum was a wonderful display of what we had learned so far during the dance year. Each class danced one piece and Touring Company performed two pieces. Before each dance, the entire class explained what they were going to do and what they learned about that particular Broadway choreography.
